History
In 1955 Salvatore Cafiero, Captain with Lauro’s fleet and for many years in charge of the chartering department, founded the company “Augustea” to participate in the development of petrochemical ports of Augusta and Syracuse, in the eastern coast of Sicily, by providing harbour towage services.
In 1964, Salvatore Cafiero added the deep-sea shipping business at the towing activities and continued to develop both businesses until he died in 1982.
The generation that followed continued and expanded his work, promoting and consolidating the international growth of the Group.

Since the 1972, Augustea has complemented it's port operator activities with offshore towing services, operating both in the Mediterranean and in oceanic areas.
From 1985 the activities expanded operating semi-submersible barges
The performances and commitment of Augustea played a crucial role in building strong and lasting relationships with the main contractors in the offshore sector and in time North Europe became one of the main area of operations of the fleet.
In the early 2000s through the acquisition of one of the main barge operators in the UK and the investments in new buildings of Anchor Handling Tugs and semi-submersible barges, Augustea increased substantially it's presence in the sector.
Decades of experience and successful projects together with it's commitment to integrity and fair relationships, earned the trust of clients and partners.

During the last years, also through some strategic partnerships aimed at developing opportunities in the UK, North Europe and Mediterranean, Augustea keeps expanding it's range of activities in the sector.
While continuously caring for the historical relationships, new opportunities have been brought forward leveraging on know-how, engineering and project management capabilities.
